KausaniKausani in Uttaranchal - There are few places
that can match the charm and mystique of the tiny hill resort of
Kausani. Stretching for just over five sq. km of the Kumaon region at a
height of almost 1900 m, Kausani offers a 300 degree view of the
Himalayas, unveiling the mighty peaks of Trishul, Nanda Devi, Nandakot
and Panchchulli. Kausani has dense woods which prove to be fascinating treks to Pinnath, Burapinath and Bhatkot, all within a 5 to 12 km radius. The locale's beauty inspired the poetry of Sumitra Nandan Pant and the writings of Mahatma Gandhi who spent a fortnight at the Anashakti Ashram. Kausani can be accessed from Pant Nagar airport, 178 km away from where regular cab services are available. Kathgodam is Kausani's nearest railhead, from where one can drive either through Ranikhet or Almora, both equally enchanting routes. Uttarakhand's other picturesque locations are within short motorable distances from Kausani. Apart from Almora and Ranikhet, this charming hill station is close to Pithoragarh, Gwaldam and Nainital. Spirituality breathes around Kausani - the 12th century Baijnath Temple is barely 20 km from here, and enshrines the deities of Shiva, Ganesh, Parvati, Chandika, Kuber, Surya and Brahma. The holy town of Bageshwar, at a distance of 40 km is believed to be the site of Sage Markandaya's meditation and worship of Lord Shiva.
