The city got its name after five irrigation canals that are named as local Panch Kuls, the right water sources supplying water from Nanda Sahib to Mansa Devi.

The climate of the city is really fine that favors the growth of the rich vegetation. In addition to this, it is also the impact of the climate that more than 42 percent of the total area of the city is forest cover or rich of flora and fauna.

Moreover, it is also an integral part of Shivalik ranges of Himalaya. The hills are also blessed with two lakes that are divided equally by the hill. Here the lakes and an old fort are the major attractions; while the lakes are considered as the scared place to come.

In addition to this, Mansa Devi temple is also a sacred place to explore in Panhkula. The famous temple is dedicated to Goddess Mansa Devi. The temple is also located on the foothills of Shivalik ranges. The temple is spread in an area of 100 acres.

Yadvinder Garden, Nada Sahib, Cactus Garden, etc, are also some of the other renowned tourist places in the city witnessing a heavy influx of tourist from all parts of the world. There are also a number of hotels and guests houses to accommodate here in a serene environment. In addition to this, the restaurants that are known for north Indian food make it an ideal place to live.
